Frequent Visitors is a weekly newsletter created to share the things we (over at Frequent Practice) have enjoyed visiting each week. Sometimes related to design, reads, and creativity. Sometimes related to anything else.
We must recognize and nurture the creative parts of each other without always understanding what will be created. — Audre Lorde
We believe in empowering women every day of the year, so with that here is a very happy (belated) International Women’s Day!! Here is a BRIEF round up of some of the incredible resources we enjoy visiting + the designers behind some of our favourite work!
Hot off the press, It’s Nice That celebrated the women and marginalised genders in the creative world through an excellent line up of stories, written by an all-female journalistic team. One of these asks a few leading women creative directors about shifting the field’s gender script. Another shares 5 exciting talents in the world of graphic design as “women to watch”, and features one of our beloved friends and recent FV share, Vivian Dehning.
Designing women is a project exploring the impact of women in design, with a great list of profiles and resources to kick start your research!
This is an excellent list of female (identifying) freelance developers!!
As much as we love freaking out over a beautiful object detail or letterform, our one true love is socially thoughtful work. This Women, Work & Covid-19 project by Olivia Johnson utilizes crochet to demonstrate how women—Black, Asian and Latina women mostly—have been disproportionately affected by the global pandemic.
Alright without further ado, here are (A FEW) of our current heroes:
Alex Daly (the “Crowdsourceress” and founder of Daly, the comms and marketing consultancy that finds and shares untold stories for people and companies)
Alicia Tatone (brilliant book designer and illustrator)
Anupama Kundoo (Remarkable Indian architect whose mantra is ‘To take time is to be alive’. Here is a publication exploring how Anupama integrates traditional Indian building customs, crafts and materials in her studio’s exceptional projects. “Architecture is the stage on which human stories are lived out. My work begins with and remains close to the deep human need to have purpose, refuge, and social engagement.”)
Chantal Jahchan (specializes in brand identify and print design that makes us jump for joy!!)
Claudia Isabel Rubín (editorial designer at the The New York Times Magazine)
Elizabeth Goodspeed (beyond her impeccable design + art direction skills, Elizabeth is a casual archivist keeping our inboxes filled with found imagery and ephemera)
Joyce N. Ho (currently the Associate Creative Director at BUCK, Joyce directs + leads mesmerizing projects in design + animation)
Lina Ghotmeh (a humanist architect whose brilliance in the complex simplicity of her approach “represents the promising forms of tomorrow’s Architecture.”)
Mariam Issoufou Kamara (Nigerian architect and founder + principal of atelier masōmī, the architecture and research firm guided by her belief that “architects have an important role to play in creating spaces that have the power to elevate, dignify, and provide a better quality of life”)

Tala Safié (designer + art director from Beirut who is making beautiful work at the New York Times)
Talia Cotton (designer, coder, and educator making out of this world interactions + more)
Tatiana Bilbao Estudio (Tatiana began her eponymous Mexico City based architecture studio with the aim of integrating social values, collaboration, and sensitive design approaches to her work. Here is a beautiful publicationthat provides insights into the Mexican cultural, artistic, and building traditions that she incorporates into her projects. “In constant collaboration with experts from various disciplines, Bilbao wants to create architecture that has a direct impact on its users.”)
Shira Inbar (independent graphic designer, maximalist, and motion graphics extraordinaire)
Zuzanna Rogatty (Polish designer, letterer, and art director who has designed a shirt that’s been worn by Jack Black, among so many other things)
This is not nearly an exhaustive list nor representative of how much incredible talent is out there, we just wanted to share a few in our little bubble! We would love nothing more than to learn about the women who are inspiring you regardless of what they do, so please reply to this email if you feel like sharing and expanding our small corner!!
As always thank you for reading, see you next week!
