No. 30
The return of the first travelling art amusement park, Spinning Out, Tyranny of Taste, and the artistry of picture books.
Frequent Visitors is our little newsletter created to share the things we (over at Frequent Practice) have enjoyed visiting each week. Sometimes related to design, reads, and creativity. Sometimes related to the wonders in between.
⑴ Watching Jenna Ortega’s impeccable self-choreographed dance scene in Wednesday has us revisiting A24’s On The Dance Floor: Spinning Out on Screen. With a forward by Cher and an essay on the Virgin Suicides homecoming scene by the inimitable Rachel Tashjian, what more could you ask for?!
⑵ The first-ever travelling art amusement park is back and dreamier than ever!!! 💫🌙 🎡 After being hidden away for over 35 years since its original Hamburg debut, Luna Luna is coming back and its collection of attractions are being restored to their former glory. Out of this world project by the Luna Luna team, Something Special Studios, and Dream Crew.
⑶ From “Tyranny of Taste” to “Excess of Everything”, the topics explored in Porto Rocha’s Design Threads (collaborative) Report unravel the state of design today. Highly recommend taking a moment to dive into it for gems galore.
⑷ Out of Control: The Concrete Art of Skateboarding at the beautiful Audain Art Museum reveals the intersection between contemporary art and skateboarding and has prompted us to pay more attention to the concrete art around us.
⑸ The work of Stockholm based designers Halleroed. I’m currently head over heels for their most recent interior for Toteme.
⑹ Exceptional book recommendations “for everyone’s inner child”. Emma’s hyper-curated collection emphasizes the artistry of picture books and we couldn’t be more of a fan of the sanctuary she is building over at Nook Books.
That’s it for this week! Thank you for reading and we hope you enjoyed your visit :) We love having visitors as much as we love being them, so it would mean the world if you shared this newsletter with someone you think might enjoy it!
As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts, answer any questions (is there anything Jenna Ortega can’t do?) + learn about some of your favourite finds (and picture books!!) by reading + responding to all of your replies to this email!
